As many of you can feel, this is the ‘fast season’ at school. Everything seems to come up quickly and whiz by. I find myself trying to be more mindful at every event, interaction, and opportunity to savour significant moments, and there are many.

Last night was one of those moments as we celebrated the Graduating Class of 2024 at the beautiful Riverway Golf Course Clubhouse for the Grad Dinner & Dance. Each year, I am struck by what a wonderful group of graduates we have – smart, poised, self-confident, and capable of taking on the world. This group is no exception as they are receiving all their university offers (a few still to come). It looks like, for the second year in a row, all our grads are getting offers to their first-choice post-secondary schools. Congratulations, Grads, we are so proud of you! More information on the post-secondary schools offered and chosen will be coming out shortly, but what bright futures these students have ahead!

We are also excited to announce updates to the exploration rotation for Grade 6 and 7 students next school year. They will rotate through Entrepreneurship, Media & Communications, Photography (using ADST), and Drama. Additionally, we are adding an exploration rotation for Grade 4 and 5 cohorts, including ADST (Applied Design, Skills & Tech), Visual Arts, Music, and Drama. These rotations will mix students in Grades 4 and 5, and Grades 6 and 7, allowing for fantastic cross-grade connections and expanded social circles.

As you can see, we are winding down the school year and planning for the next, so we will continue to share new additions in the coming weeks. Much of our planning is based on student, staff, and parent feedback. The student survey in the fall is a great way to hear from students, and our Parent Survey, just distributed via email, is a wonderful way to hear from families. Please take some time in the next week or two to complete the survey and offer feedback to help us in our planning.

With another eye to the coming year, our parent-run Golf Social Committee asks you to save the date for the afternoon of September 13. A fun golf event (limited skills required) is being planned again this year. My hope is that we’ve planned it early enough to avoid the liquid sunshine that was bestowed upon us at our first golf social!

A little bit of a shorter-term look to the future, the UA Band Concert is next week on Thursday evening. As a huge band enthusiast who values music education, I am excited that our students get to share their talents. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there. Another week at UA, another showcase!

Have a great long weekend,

Sonja Kennedy
