Dr. Stephen Black earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz in Social and Personality Psychology in 1989, followed by a second Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Jackson State University in 2005. His clinical training includes an internship at Mississippi State Hospital in 2004 and a post-doctoral fellowship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, where he specialized in psychosocial rehabilitation. Since 2006, Dr. Black has held a licensure in both California and Mississippi. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Black is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Palo Alto University, and he is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, the American Psychology & Law Society, and the Society for a Scientific Clinical Psychology. His research primarily focuses on suicide assessment and intervention as well as psychosocial rehabilitation for individuals with serious mental illness, guided by a behavioral-cognitive and humanistic theoretical orientation.
