It was a busy start to May with AP exams starting for our Senior Students, the Grade 4/5 spring concert, all of the athletic events, today’s middle school social, and mental health week – not to mention the Canucks making it to round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs!

A big thank you to Ms. Scali and the team here at UA for intentionally planning wellness-focused activities for Canadian Mental Health Week. Highlights included buddy walks across grade levels, lunchtime games, lunchtime yoga, and a very memorable talent show. It is weeks like this that remind all of us of the importance of prioritizing our mental health.

While it may be a cliche to say “Beautiful British Columbia,” the weather forecast for this weekend certainly does prove it to be true. With sunshine and temperatures in the mid-20s, I encourage all of you to go and explore your local neighbourhoods and head outdoors this weekend. There is no shortage of research highlighting the benefits of going outside, so do something different and find an adventure. Whether it is a walk around Queen’s Park or Deer Lake, biking the BC Parkway (a personal favourite), spending the day at Rocky Point Park, or going on a hike (recommendations include Jug Island or the Buntzen Lake area), the outdoors can be accessible to all!

Next week, we look forward to seeing many families across both our junior and middle schools at UA for student-led conferences on Wednesday, May 15. These conferences will be an excellent opportunity to see life at UA through your child’s eyes. Please see previous communication and the Parent Hub on details for how to sign up.

Playoff hockey is always entertaining, so enjoy some hockey (regardless of who you cheer for) and get outside this weekend!

Have a great weekend,

Clare Manifold
